UK visa submitted!

photo (3)

One more thing off my to-do list as I prepare for my exchange to Glasgow. Yay!

Funnily, I saw this photo the same day I submitted my visa application to the UK visa application centre and laughed nervously to myself because it perfectly represents what I was thinking of as I was going through the process. One of the things I had to do at the visa application centre was give my biometrics.  As I watched the fingerprint scanner do its job and eyed all the cameras surrounding me in the room, I couldn’t help but think Mycroft Holmes was watching my every move and will continue to do so during my entire stay in the UK. A chilling (but somewhat amusing) thought.

Lip Sync Battle

This lip sync battle with Jimmy Fallon and the gorgeous Emma Stone is probably the best lip sync battle I’ve ever seen. Absolutely hilarious!

I am a huge fan of Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show. It’s humour that is refreshing and comfortable, but also raw and real fun. I enjoy Fallon’s monologues and sketches, some of which carried over from Late Night. But what I really love about this show is seeing how much fun everyone has making it. They are so funny, and the show never fails to put a smile on my face.

I was really happy when it was announced that Fallon was going to be the new host of The Tonight Show. He’s doing an amazing job so far!

Infographics

I recently stumbled upon a list of infographics displaying (painful) facts of everyday life on Imgur. I find it so fascinating that they were so well represented. Infographics have a neat ability to visually tell a story or present a point in such a way that it not only makes sense, but you are also able to learn and take away the intended message. These one left me with laughs and stabs in the heart all at once.

These ones were my personal favourites:

Glaswegian

Awright?

I’ve spoken to a few people who have had experience in Glasgow, whether it was for a visit or for an extended period of time. Many have commented about the Glaswegian accent and how it can be difficult to understand. Some went as far as to say I probably won’t understand it at all. I think it’s fair to say it may be difficult to understand at first, but I hope over time it will be easier.

Upon doing further research on Glasgow, I came across this video on YouTube of someone kindly explaining how to speak and understand Glaswegian. It’s not only helpful and practical, but he also adds a bit of humour which I appreciate.

Here is lesson two on threats and aggression (which I am also adding to my information on safety abroad):

At least now I’m not going in with a completely blank slate. I wish there were more video lessons by him – he’s hilarious!

Gotta Love Conference Calls

This video was brought to my attention by my colleagues In our “Internet, Adult Learning and Community Development” class when we were discussing about how online learning is facilitated and how we incorporate technology into our “classrooms”. I think what makes it super hilarious is that it is very accurate to what actually happens.
